“I was born and grew up in Yokohama, Japan.  Luckily, when I was kid we had lots of beautiful nature around us in my home town of Yokohama.

There was a calm little beach down the road from my parents’ house.  Nearly every day I walked to that beach and went collecting clams.  My mother would use them in our miso soup at breakfast the next day.

Here in Newcastle we also have many beautiful beaches. About ten years ago, my friend Dino introduced me to plein air painting.  We went out mostly to Merewether and painted there. I am very grateful that he introduced me to this wonderful way of painting and for his encouragement.

As we know, the beach doesn’t stay the same.  The position of things, the colours and the atmosphere is always changing. Every time is different. I love to talk to the beach and try to  catch the day’s feeling.

I am very happy if you can feel the beach from my paintings.”
