arvo roll, 2018
oil, tempera on board
120 x 100cm unframed
This work was based on a much smaller version which was originally conceived from a spontaneous iPad sketch, using bold flat colours, hence its pop art minimal feel. It was the tail end of the ‘servo’ series, where I was consciously focusing on inserting the figure back into the work. The final piece kept the original bold simplicity and stuck closely to the original study apart from the addition of the street sign. The narrative touches on society’s commodification, fashion, acts of rebellion as well as love of composition and design and space.
